Get Ready for International Roadcheck 2025: What You Need to Know

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has officially announced the dates for its 2025 International Roadcheck: May 13–15. This annual three-day initiative is one of the largest targeted enforcement efforts for commercial motor vehicle safety in North America. Law enforcement officers across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico will be out in full force performing Level I Inspections on commercial trucks and drivers—and if you’re in the trucking business, now is the time to prepare.

At Wise Insurance Agency, we work with commercial truckers and fleet owners every day to ensure they’re covered, compliant, and ready for the road. Here’s what you need to know to get through Roadcheck 2025 smoothly.

What Is International Roadcheck?

International Roadcheck is an annual, high-visibility inspection and enforcement initiative aimed at promoting road safety in the commercial transportation industry. Inspectors conduct North American Standard Level I Inspections, which involve a 37-step process reviewing both driver credentials and vehicle mechanical condition.

2025 Inspection Focus Areas

Each year, CVSA highlights specific inspection categories. This year’s areas of focus are:

🚛 Driver’s Record of Duty Status (RODS)

Inspectors will closely review drivers’ hours of service (HOS) logs to ensure compliance. Inaccurate, incomplete, or falsified logs can result in citations or the driver being placed out of service. Be sure your electronic logging device (ELD) or paper logbook is accurate and up to date.

🛞 Tires

Inspectors will thoroughly check for tread depth, tire inflation, cuts, bulges, and mismatched or damaged tires. Proper tire maintenance is not only critical for safety, but it’s also a common violation during inspections. Don’t let a tire issue sideline your vehicle.

What to Expect During the Inspection

Driver Requirements Checked:

  • Record of Duty Status (RODS)

  • CDL and medical certificate

  • Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse compliance (U.S.)

  • Seat belt use

  • Alcohol or drug impairment signs

  • Inspection reports

Vehicle Checks Include:

  • Tires and wheels

  • Brakes and suspension

  • Lights and reflectors

  • Cargo securement

  • Exhaust, fuel, and driveline components

  • Windshield wipers and mirrors

  • Steering mechanisms

Vehicles that pass inspection will receive a CVSA decal valid for up to three months. Those that fail due to critical safety violations will be taken out of service until repairs are completed.

How to Prepare for International Roadcheck 2025

Here are a few best practices to avoid unnecessary violations:

✅ Perform thorough pre-trip inspections
✅ Keep your logbook current and accurate
✅ Ensure tires are properly inflated and free of damage
✅ Keep your cab clean and organized—first impressions matter
✅ Review your Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse status
✅ Schedule any maintenance or service checks before May
